control panel

Swipe up from the bottom of your screen to access the control panel. This gives you basic settings like airplane mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, screen brightness, torch, clock, timer, calculator and camera.

spotlight

Search, which Apple calls Spotlight, has changed. You now access it by swiping down in huge middle of your home screen. You can search for anything like contacts, texts, emails, apps or songs.

notification centre

Swipe down from the top of your screen to view the new notification centre. Tap the today tab to get a quick snapshot of today's weather and events in your diary.

spirit level

The compass app (on the phone only) doubles as a spirit level. Just swipe over one screen!

auto updates

You can tell iOS 7 to automatically update your apps without opening the App Store. Go to Settings >iTunes & App Store and switch the "Updates" option to green under the Automatic Downloads section.

When you then open up the App Store tap the updates tab and you'll get a quick snapshot of any recently updated apps.

parallax effect

iOS 7 has a new parallax effect. That means the icons on your home screen move around as you move your idevice. This option is also reported as using more battery! To switch it off go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Reduce Motion and flip the switch to Green.

block numbers

You can now block phone numbers from calling or texting you.

Go to Settings > Phone > Blocked to add numbers or people in your contacts to your blocked list.
