Iqbal Masih was a Pakistani boy who was sold into child labor at the age of four for 12 US dollars. He spent the next couple years of his life working alongside hundreds of other children.
Unlike the other children, Iqbal would not remain completely submissive. At the age of 10 he escaped from his master and joined the Bonded Labor Liberation Front of Pakistan
Even though Iqbal is dead, his story has encouraged millions of people around the world to join the fight against child labor. Foundations such as the Free the Children and the National Child Labor Committee were created to free children from this growing issue and allow them to the live the life they deserve
Free the Children is a charity that was founded by a Canadian boy named Craig Kielburger. After reading about Iqbal's story in the Toronto Star, he convinced several of his classmates to help him create a charity dedicated to freeing laboring children.
We can help fight against child labor by supporting charities like Free the Children. By raising awareness and support for child labor, we can more effectively fight against it.
