Christianity is the largest religion in the Republic of Ireland based on baptisms. Irish Christianity is dominated by the Roman Catholic Church which has 84.2% of the population as followers.

The term Irish Gaelic is often used when English speakers discuss the relationship between the three Goidelic languages (Irish, Scottish Gaelic, and Manx). Sometimes "Irish" is taken to mean "Hiberno-English", a form of English associated with Ireland.

The introduction of the potato in the second half of the 16th century heavily influenced Ireland's cuisine and, as a result, is often associated with Ireland as being there food. Well known Irish dishes include Irish stew,bacon and cabbage, potato, boxty, coddle, and colcannon.

In Ireland, they celebrate much the same holidays as we do, although they do them a bit differently. Such as Christmas, Traditionally the Christmas season begins on 8 December in Ireland and lasts until 6 January. Christmas trees are often mounted like flag staffs from building fronts. Instead of Santa leaving everything under the tree he leaves each child's gifts in their room, often in a pillow case at the end of the bed.

In Ireland, Soccer and rugby are popular, and many people follow UK professional teams.Other sports include hurling and Gaelic football. Hurling is played on a soccer-type field with wooden sticks and a small leather ball. Gaelic football is played with a round ball and is sort of a cross between soccer and basketball.

Irish music, The older music of Ireland is known as Irish traditional music. It has remained liked through the 20th, and into the 21st century. Irish music has kept many of its traditional forms and has influenced many forms of music.

Government
Ireland is led by a popularly elected president, who has served a seven-year term.The head of government is called the Taoiseach, and is basically a prime minister.The government respects many freedoms, such as freedom of speech, assembly, religion, and the freedom of press.

The levels of education in Ireland are primary, secondary and higher. In past years further education has grown a lot in Ireland. Growing of the economy has driven most of the educational growth.Education in Ireland is free at all levels, including college (university), but only for students applying from the European Union.
