Simile

  • A direct comparison between two unlike things using the
  • words like or as.
  • Ex: The racing car is fast like cheetah.

Metaphor

  • A way of describing something by compairing
  • it to something else implied comparison between
  • two unlike things without using like or as.
  • Ex: The soccer game was a wild cat.

Personification

  • To give humans characteristics to
  • something that is not humans.
  • Ex: The flying beast welcome us to
  • the castle.

Alliteration

  • Repetition of the first consonant
  • sound at the beginning of a word.
  • Ex: Please put your pens away and
  • play the piano.

onomatopoeia

  • When a word's pronunciation
  • imitates its sound.
  • Ex: Boom, puff, pow, pop, zap.

Hyporbole

  • An exagerated statement used
  • to heighten effect. It is not used
