FIVE FACTS

  • Isaac Newton is known for his discoveries in science and mathematics
  • He was born in 1624 to a family of farmers
  • Newton was not a very good student and at fourteen had to leave school to help his mother farm.
  • Newton studied at Trinity College, Cambridge. He graduated 1665.
  • He helped discover the the theories of gravity and fluxions which is now known as calculus

Background Info
Newton was born on December 25, 1624 to a family of farmers. His father was already dead so his mother remarried and left him in the care of his grandmother. Growing up he wasn't a good student. He spent his time making contraptions. He eventually quit school to help his mother on the farm. He went back to school and in 1665 he graduated from Cambridge.

What was happening at that time period?
1665 was the year of the plague in London. This plague killed hundreds of people. It closed down schools and other places.

Why was he important?
Newton's discovers helped create a whole new subject of math. Because of what he started we are able to measure the curves/flows of math. He is basically the founder of calculus.
