WHAT IS ISLAM?

• The word Islam means submissive or surrender.
• Its origin was the Arabian Peninsala created by the prophet Muhammed.
• Outward signs: prayer, fasting, and pilgrimage
• Inward signs: beliefs, rituals, and a moral code
• Pilgrimage is usually to the Ka'ba to see a black stone in the courtyard of the central Miscue in Mecca.

GEOGRAPHY

• 23% of world's population is Muslim
• Indonesia has the largest Muslim population- 209 million
• Morocco has the highest percentage of Muslims- 99.9%
• 2.5 million Muslims in the U.S, 0.8% of population

• The continents with the most countries with a Muslim majority are Asia and Africa
• When the Islam religion spread, libraries were preserved more and scholars were honored more

HOW THEY SPREAD.

• In 622a.d. Muslims emigrated to Medina.
• In 624 a.d. Muhammed won a great battle against the people of Mecca
• They spread to man nations to become the second largest religion in the world.
• To become a Muslim one must say with conviction:
• "La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammedur rasoolu Allah."

ISLAM AND OTHER RELIGION

• Islam,Christianity and Judaism are all monotheistic religion
• Share a common laws but Islam is more harsh on it crimes
• And that Moses and Jesus were great prophet but Mohammed is the true prophet
• Islam teach that Jesus was only human that was good prophet but not the son of god
• The similarities Islam have with Christianity and Judaism is that they all believe in one supreme being

• Islam believe that it not clearly right to forced religion on anyone
• Islam teach to live in peace with those of different religion
