Chapter 16
The white men's ship didn't come back and neither did the Aleuts. Karana made two great discoveries. One was that she found a cave to store her canoe, and two was a devilfish she was planning to catch.

Chapter 17
There were many storms, during this time Karana made weapons to catch the giant devilfish. Rontu didn't go with Karana to slay the devilfish, because he had not returned since Karane let him out of the fence. Karana found Rontu fighting for dominance against two wild dogs.

Chapter 18
Karana finds two baby birds, and clips their wings so they wouldn't migrate. She named one Tainor, because that is the name of a boy killed by the aleuts that she liked. She named the second one Lurai because that is the name she liked better than Karana.

Chapter 19
Karana looks for and finds the devilfish. She goes to the beach, gets into her canoe and sails out into the ocean. And to her suprise she defeats the devilfish, but she was to tired to take it back to shore.

Chapter 20
Karana was gathering abalones and she found Black cave.In Black cave she saw a human skeleton and fake skeletons made of reeds.

Chapter 21
The Aleuts come back and a girl comes with them and finds Karana. They become friends, but sadly the Aleut's had to leave soon, so she leaves Karana a gift.When The Aleut girl leaves Karana is scared to go into the cave because she is scared the Aleuts are there.

Chapter 22
Karana hid herself on a brushy ledge at the ravine so she wouldn't be found by the Aleuts. Karana and Tutok (the Aleut girl) learn each others secret names.
