OVERVIEW

  • The conflict was started in 1948, with the creation of Israel.
  • Both Israel and Palestine claim the same land and caused several regional conflicts, like the 2008 Gaza war and the Six Day War in 1967.
  • The Palestine Liberation Organization(PLO) represents Palestine(West Bank), while Hamas controls the Gaza Strip
  • There has been multiple peace talks between the two sides, but not much progress has been made.

EXAMPLES

  • In January of 2008 Hamas forced open the border with Egypt, which was closed since 2005. This is because Israel was tighten its blockade, due rocket attacks by Hamas. In December of 2008 Israel sent ground troop into Gaza, which resulted in more than 1,300 people were killed and most were civilians.
  • Israel responds to an menacing build up of Arab forces along it borders. In six days quickly defeated the Arab coalition of Syria, Egypt, Jordan and capture the territories of Golan Heights, West Bank, Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula.
