• Ivan Pavlov was born September 26 1849 in Ryazan, Russia
• He was the son of Peter Dmitrievich Pavlov
• He attended church school
• Later attended the University of St. Petersburg
• Also attended the Academy of Medical Surgery

CONTRIBUTIONS TO PSYCHOLOGY

• His main contribution was the idea of classical conditioning
• Most of his research focused the digestive system
• The bulk of his research was done 1891-1900

NOBEL PRIZE

• Pavlov received the Noble prize for Medicine & Physiology

OTHER AWARDS & ACHIEVEMENTS

• Elected corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences
• Elected Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences
• Given an honorary doctorate by Cambridge University
• Awarded the Order of the Legiom of Honour

Ivan Pavlov died in Leningrad on February 27 1936 at the age of 86
