TUNDRA ANIMALS
In the tundra the snowy owl survives on small hares and rodents
The gyrfalcon can be found in grasslands and mainly eats other birds
Ruddy turnstone are found on the Arctic coasts of the tundra and make their nests in the ground
The polar bear is very vicious and it has huge claws
In the tundra there are walruses and they have very big tusks

In the tundra it is cool and dry
The tundra has snow and grass fields
There is not much rain
The average precipitation is about 10 inches a year
The average temperature is around -18 degrees F

You can find them in Alaska ,Colorado ,Canada and the north pole
The most common place is the North Pole

TUNDRA PLANTS
The purple coneflower is part of the daisy family and grows in the grasslands of the tundra.
Lichen grow on the surface of rock and are food to many animals.
The bearberry grows close to the ground to survive the high wind.
Arctic moss lives on the bottom of tundra lake beds
Labrador tea has fuzz under the leaves to collect frost

In the summer the tundra has 24 hours of daylight
The tundra covers 20% of the earth
The ground is permanently frozen year round below the top soil
