Early Life Jackie Joyner-Kersee was born in 1962 in Illinois. Growing up there, Jackie liked to go to the Mary Brown center for kids. She tried a lot of sports like volleyball and dance. Later, Jackie and her older brother Al went to track and field. They trained together. Jackie was a great athelete. When she was 14 she won 4 Junior pentathlons in a row!
Education Jackie went to UCLA with a basketball scholarship, not a track and field scholarship. She played for the Bruins for 4 years. Then Jackie started to focus on Track at UCLA. In 1984 Jackie decided to do the summer olympics. In 1986 she married Bob Kersee who was her coach.
Accomplishments In the 1988 summer Olympics, Jackie won 2 gold medals! They were for Long Jump and the Heptathlon. In 1992, she won 2 medals again. She won gold in the Heptathlon and Bronze in Long Jump.She was also the first woman to score more than 7,000 points in the Heptathlon.
Charactor Traits Hardworking- She never gave up and she won 3 gold medals. Purposeful- she had sportsmanship and she didn't care if she didn't win gold in a event.
