Early Life:
Jackie was born in Georgia on January 31, 1919.
UCLA
Jackie played and excelled in four sports: baseball, football, basketball, and track. He went to UCLA and was the first student ever to receive four varsity letters in four different sports.
WW II Involvement:
He also served in the army. After the war ended, Jackie started to play pro baseball in the Negro Leagues.
He went to spring training in Florida for a minor league team, the Royals.
On April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson became the first African American in the Major leagues playing for the Dodgers.
Fighting Prejudice:
Pee Wee Reese, shortstop and friend to Jackie, made it clear that he would support African Americans in the MLB.
Jackie was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1962.
He died in 1972, along with the number 42.
