Background

• Born in 1957 and is currently 63 years old.
• He graduated from Auburn University where he got his electrical engineering degree.
• "15 years after graduating, he left his job to pursue his calling of artwork and writing."
• Pete the Cat (a blue cat) became a character in Dean's artwork, and "has become a permanent fixture ever since."

In 2008, he partnered with Eric Litwin to create the first Pete the Cat book called, Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes. "Now, James has helped create over 70 Pete the Cat books, including many NYT Bestsellers. "

James Dean had a wife, and also had many cats of their own, which inspired James t draw cats in his artwork. This led to him wanting to write children's books with his little blue cat character, Pete.
