The Texas Republic was from 1836-1845

James Pinckney Henderson arrived in Texas in the year of 1836 after texas had won their independence from Mexico.

Henderson became the Secretary of State for the Republic of Texas in 1836.

In 1837 Houston sent Henderson to Europe to help gain recognition for the Republic of Texas.

Texans wanted to establish recognition with European nations so they could strengthen their position as an independent nation.

In 1837 Henderson was appointed minister of Texas in England and France.

In September of 1839, Henderson and Marshal Soult, arranged a treaty where France recognized Texas' independence.

France was the first European country to recognize them.

France sent a representative named Alphonse Saligny to the Republic of Texas.

Texas later gained recognition from Belgium, the Netherlands, and Great Britain.

Henderson returned to Texas in 1840.
