During this time, the church was being persecuted by King Herod. They were being killed and beaten because of their faith in Christ. The early church was being treaty very cruelly during the reign of King Herod.
The world is basically shutting out what they say. They did not want to hear about this new religion. The culture was very hard for them to live in. Most people were against them, and did not care about them.
