PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Jane Goodall

  • Jane was born in London, England.
  • She studied chimpanzees in Africa.
  • Jane was born on April 3rd, 1934.

Her field of work.

  • At an early age, Jane had a mindset of wanting to go to Africa to study wild animals.
  • Her first observation of chimps failed. She could not get any closer than 500 feet of the group.

Her field of work.

  • Jane began to show up at the same spot at the same time each day and the chimps began to get use to her presence.
  • Jane created a club called the "Banana Club" to use as a feeding method to gain trust from chimps so she could study them further.

Her field of work.

  • Jane noted that chimps have a complex social system, complete with ritualized behaviors and primitive but discernible communication methods, including a primitive "language" system containing more than 20 individual sounds!
  • Jane also discovered that chimpanzees use rocks and stones as weapons and use touch and embrace to comfort one another.
