Explanation
Japan is right along the worlds most active fault line (PRF). Because they are located on so many tectonic plates, about 1,500 earthquakes strike a year.

The costal area of Japan is more effected than the inner land because there is oceanic and continental tectonic plates. In fact, the costal area of Japan gets about 75% more or worst earthquakes than the inner land.

How The Country is Responding
Japan is considered one of the most prepared countries for earthquakes. Schools and offices are required to have earthquake drills.To watch for earthquakes, they have multiple seismic stations. The JMA watches the seismic stations 24/7 to stay alert and watch for any near or coming earthquakes/tsunamis. The seismic station can send out a tsunami or earthquake warning in less than three minutes to the JMA.
