HONSHU ISLAND

  • Honshu is Japan's largest island, and is home to many people because of its fertile land to produce fruits.

  • Japan Alp mountain range is located in Honshu Japan and is home to the famous MT. Fuji.

LAKE BIWA

  • Lake Biwa is home to many fish species and provide local anglers with fresh fish, it is also the biggest lake in Japan.

UNAGI

  • Unagi is a japan dish that is cooked river eel topped with a sweet and zesty sauce, it is usually served with white rice.

SOBA

  • Soba is a noodle soup which consists of japan grown buckwheat noodles, some sort of meat ( usually shrimp or beef) and broth.

SUSHI

  • Sushi is raw fish and rice wrapped with sea weed. This is most citizens favorite feed.

SHINTO

  • Shinto is one of the two main religions in Japan, the practice is said to be old as Japan itself.
  • Shinto people practice in shrines, the religion believes in sprits of the old world japan guiding their way, they also believe in things having special powers in the natural world.

BUDDHISM

  • Buddhism is the second main religion in Japan.
  • Buddhism is much like Hinduism but it does not believe in the cast system. The religion practices the belief in many gods and believes lin dharma and karma.

COMING OF AGE NATIONAL HOLIDAY

  • The coming of age holiday is celebrated on the second Monday of January, it celebrates 20 year old men and women becoming an adult. 20 years old is the legal age of consuming alcohol, and buying tobacco products.

TRADITIONAL MEN DRESS

  • Kimono outfits are mainly black.
  • The top is called the crest.
  • Bottom id called a hakama and it fits loosely around the legs and ankles.
  • Tabi is a form of sandals that men wear.

TRADITIONAL WOMEN DRESS

  • Women commonly wear a flower and have their hair in a bun.
  • Traditional dress is called kimonos
  • They were a belt called a obi.

GOVERNMENT

  • Constitutional monarchy
  • GDP per capita= 38,633.71
  • Literacy rate = %99

CURRENCY

  • Japans currency is measured in yens.

JAPAN'S MAIN EXPORTS

  • Japan exported just under 630 billion dollars in the year 2015 here are the top 3 exported goods.
  • 1. Vehicles $134 billion
  • 2. Machines $117.7 billion
  • 3. Electronic equipment $95.6 billion

ECONOMY

  • Japan is a mixed economy but leans more to a market economy then a command.

ORIGINAL SETTLEMENT

  • Yayoi culture was a culture from 300bc to 300ad. They lived by cultivating rice fields native to Japan.
  • Japan was never colonized.

POLITICAL CONFLICT

  • Chinese Japanese conflict, in 663 the first battle erupted between the two nations. They are said to be still in not very good graces for a variety of reasons.

RECENT NEWS

  • In 2011 a tsunami hit Japan. It effected many shoreline cities but the cleanup process in some areas of japan is still not finished with such as Fukushima japan. Fukushima was home to a nuclear power plant in when the tsunami hit the toxic waste unleashed into the water making Fukushima still not safe to live in to this day.

HIMEJI CASTLE

  • Himeji castle is one of the few preserved samurai castles left in japan.

THE PHOENIX HALL AT BYDO- IN TEMPLE

  • Phoenix hall may be one of the most well known places in japan it is even on the ten yen coin.

KANAGWA

  • Kanagwa is a very common vacation for most of the Japanese people, mot very well known by people in other countries but very well known by the natives.

AICHI

  • Aichi is home of Toyota motors but is also known for the magnificent gardens and trails that surround the city.

HIROSHIMA

  • Hiroshima is home to many peace museums and memorials ( ironically this is were the united states bombed in world war 2).
