J.Cole's I Get Up vs. Langston Hughes' Mother to Son

Mother to Son by Langston Hughes

Mother to Son was about a mother talking to her son about her life's hardships and how she never quitted. She was trying to encourage him to do the same.

The mood of Mother to Son is encouraging because the poem says," Life for me ain't been no crystal stair." Then later says," I'se been a-clibmin' on, And reachin' landin's, and turnin' corners"

The whole poem Mother to So is a huge metaphor becuase the mother is comparing her life's hardship's to a crystal stiarcase. For example, "Life for me ain't been no crystal stair."

When I read, "Life for me ain't been no crystal stair. Its had tacks in it, And splinters, And boards torn up, And places with no carpet on the floor, BARE." I thought of a really beat up stiarcase in an abandoned apartment building.

I think the author's reason for writing this poem was to inspire the audience (most likely teenagers) to never quit because times get hard.

The message of this poem is just because life gets hard don't give up.

I Get Up by J. Cole

I Get Up was about J. Cole and how he grew up with almost no money, but didn't let that get in his way of fufilling his dreams. He promised his mom he wouldn't just be the "status quo".

The mood of I Get Up is Inspiring becuase some of the lyrics are really deep. For example in the song it says, " Im a fresh prince but, yo my city ain't no Bel-Air." Then in the chorus of the song it says, "Mama ya son is gon' find his way. And if I gotta crawl Imma make it to the end though. Up to the top if I gotta climb my way."

In the song I Get Up
there is a lot of irony. For example the lyrics say, "Paint a picture and show a deaf man what its' like to listen. And speak the words and tell a blind man what he missin."

In the chorus of the song I can kind of visualize what he was describing. He says, ''I get up
I see the clouds from my window.I pray the sun gon' shine this way. And where I go as the wind blow"

I think J. Cole wrote this song to inspire those in the many neglected hoods of America to keep their heads up.

I think the message in this song is, "If I can do it, you can do it."

Both the poem and the song are trying to inspire and encourage thier audience to never give up just because times get hard or because times are hard.

Both the song and the poem have different a audience. They also don't share h

Mother to Son and I Get Up are both important because everyone goes throught some sort of struggle during their life and these both will inspire and encourage you to keep fighting.
