ROLE IN THE CIVIL WAR
On February 1861 Alabama selected Jefferson Finis Davis to become the President of the Confederacy. He would be expected to serve for a six year term.
Davis did not want this job, as he was instead hoping for a military command.
Jefferson Davis was forced to flee on April 2, 1865. On May 10, 1865 he was captured by Northern soldiers near Irwinville, Georgia.

AFTER THE WAR
Jefferson Davis was imprisoned at Fort Monroe, Virginia for two years.
Davis struggled to make a living and lived off of charity and friends.
Jefferson Finis Davis finally died in New Orleans, Louisiana on December 6, 1889.
