WHAT IS PASSOVER?

THE PASSOVER OVERVIEW

• Celebrates the "Exodus" of Jews from Egypt
• Pesach: "Paschal Lamb" for sacrifice
• God "passed over" marked houses
• Killing of the First Born
• Begins on the 14th of Nissan (early March or April)

OVERVIEW (CONT.)

• Hag ha-Pesah (Used for pastoral purposes)
• Hag ha-Matsot -Feast of the Unleavened Bread
• The two names represent the same holiday
• 70 CE, Temple Destroyed; no more sacrifices
