“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.

He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”

Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”

Jesus said to her, “Mary.”

She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).

A: Emmaus

Who joined the disciples on their walk?

17 He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”They stood still, their faces downcast. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” 19 “What things?” he asked. “About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. 20 The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him;

Did the two disciples recognize Jesus?

21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. 22 In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning 23 but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. 24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”

nope.

He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?”

Jesus broke the bread, gave thanks, then what happened?

30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him,

HE DISAPPEARED!

The disciples recognized Jesus, then He disappeared!

Who doubted that Jesus had appeared to His disciples?

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

Thomas

Now Thomas (also known as Didymusa, which means twin), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”

But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Jesus told His disciples that they would receive power when?

7 And he said unto them,It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

After the Holy Ghost is come upon them.

9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

JESUS IS COMING SOON

ARE YOU READY?

Once upon a time, a grandfather promised a little boy that he would take him to Dollywood. "Be ready tomorrow morning," the grandfather said. The little boy was so excited, that he got up at 5:00 AM and brushed his teeth, combed his hair, put sunscreen all over his nose and the tops of his ears, and put on his play clothes that would dry out quickly after riding on water rides. The boy was all ready. He waited by the door. He waited an hour, then two hours, then three hours, then four hours. Then the boy decided his grandfather was not coming. He took off his play clothes, put his pajamas back on, and got himself a bowl of cereal and starting watching cartoons. Just then, the doorbell rang. It was his grandfather. He looked a the little boy in the pajamas eating cereal, and said, "What? I gave you all that time to get ready, and you're still in your pajamas?"

WITH THE SOUND OF THE TRUMPET

For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.

Mount of Olives

(today)
Zechariah 14:4 says that Jesus will return to the Mount of Olives. The Mount of Olives is an important site today. Since the Bible says that the resurrection from the dead will happen here, people believe that this is a great spot to be buried, so that they can be first in line to see the Messiah when He comes. Do you see all those little square stones? Those are actually places where people are buried.

Waiting for Messiah

Look at all the people. Inside each of those stones is a person who has died, waiting for the Messiah to come. They are lying with their feet toward the temple, so that they can just stand up and walk with the Messiah toward the temple mount. They all have such hope!

". . . an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice." John 5:28

Jesus will fight for Jerusalem.

I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, . . . Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations, as he fights on a day of battle.

War is a scary thing, but not if you have Jesus fighting for you! Imagine, nation after nation circling around tiny little Jerusalem. There are soldiers marching! March, march! There are helicopters- thuka thuka thuka thuka. There are tanks. Brrrrrrr! Rockets are firing into the city: shhhhh . . . kebloosh! It looks like Israel is finished, and then: here comes Jesus, and an army of righteous people with Him.

The Mount of Olives will be split in two.

The Bible says, "On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. . . . Then the Lord my God will come, and all the holy ones with him."

Jerusalem will be secure.

The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord. . . Jerusalem will be raised up high . . . It will be inhabited; never again will it be destroyed. Jerusalem will be secure. -Zech. 14:9,11

When he appears we shall be like Him.

"Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is." - I John 3:2

"Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. . . . then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

"When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory." -Col. 3:4

CROWN

OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
2 Timothy 4:8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day - and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

No one knows the day or hour.

So, when will Jesus come back? The Bible says, "However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven . . ."

He will wipe every tear from their eyes.

1Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”a for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away . . . And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, . . . God himself will be with them. . . He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” "He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new! . . . I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. . . .Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. 8But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, . . .those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake . . . "
