  • Centeral Figure of Christianity
  • Believed to be God's only son, or the incarnation of God

His Birth

  • Jesus was said to be the Messiah who came to teach, suffer and die for people’s sins.
  • Born circa 6 B.C. in the city of Bethlehem
  • His mother, Mary, who was betrothed to Joseph the carpenter, was said to be a virgin even though she was pregnant with God's child
  • Gabriel was the angel who was sent to tell Mary that God blessed her with a child, and that his name shall be Jesus.

Luke 1:31-33

  • Don’t be afraid, Mary. You have found favor with God. 31 You will become pregnant, give birth to a son, and name him Jesus. 32 He will be a great man and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. 33 Your son will be king of Jacob’s people forever, and his kingdom will never end.”

His Birth

  • Joseph had a hard time believing Mary about being a virgin until an angel came to him as well and explained the sitation

Mathew 1:18-21

  • This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet[b] did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,[c] because he will save his people from their sins.”

Ministry

  • Jesus who was living in Galilee recruited many followers known as deciples.
  • These followers believed that Jesus was the son of God who came to save them from their sins.

Miracles

  • Jesus performed many miracles such as turning water to wine, made manna (bread) fall out of the sky, he walked on water, he healed those with leapers, and fed 4000 people with only seven loaves of bread and a few small fish.

Luke 24:1-12

  • 24 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7 ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” 8 Then they remembered his words. 9 When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. 11 But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. 12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.

My Reaction

  • Yes, I am a Christian but I never really learned in depth about Jesus. He's very interesting and the fact that people knew about him before he was even born is more evidence that he was truly a very important figure in history and in the Chistian faith.
