BIRTH AND DEATH

  • Born in 1674 in Berkshire, England
  • Died on February 21, 1741
  • His death could be due to his pulminary disorder.
  • He was buried clsoe to where he was born back in Berkshire

ABOUT JETHRO TULL

  • He became very interested in agriculture.
  • He pursued this interest and lived on his father's farm.
  • The farm was located in Howberry.
  • Tull married Susanna Smith.
  • They had three children. (One son and two daughters)

HIS INVENTIONS

  • Tull invented the horse drawn seed drill in 1701.
  • It helped in aiding in the Agricultural Revolution.
  • Jethro Tull also made other inventions.
  • Another one was the horse drawn hoe.
  • This also helped in many agricultural aspects.

THE SEED DRILL

  • The seed drill was drawn by horses.
  • It sowed the seeds into nice even rows.
  • The drill was mechanical, making the holes for the seeds perfect.
  • This seems simple to us now, but at the time it was revolutionary.

  • The seed drill could plant different types of seeds at once.
  • It could also plant in several rows at the same time
  • It also saved on time and labor.
  • This was very economically friendly.
  • It helped in modernizing agriculture.

JETHRO TULL'S LATER YEARS

  • Towards the end of his life, Tull searched for a cure.
  • He had a pulminary disease.
  • As he traveled, he made more discoveries of agriculture.
  • Tull wrote these down, and continued learning.

  • Overall, Jethro Tull helped the agricultural community immensly.
  • He created new inventions that would help in the fields.
  • These would serve as a basis for other inventors to create more improved devices.
  • Tull discovered new techniques that would conserve time, labor, and money.
  • These not only affected Britain, but the rest of the world as well.
