PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Many weddings are stressful, but Jewish wedding traditions keep the lovers focused on what they are commiting to each other and to God. They keep the wedding holy.

The wedding ceremony is held under a chuppah, or an open canopy. It pays tribute to Abraham and Sarah, two biblical characters.

There are several contracts that the couple has to sign before the wedding. The first engages the couple, it's called a Tena'im no matter how long the bride has had a ring. And the second is the Ketebah, where the groom promises to take care of his bride.

In Jewish weddings, rings aren't required, but of they are used, they MUST be small bands of gold.

After the ceremony, the groom will stomp on glass. It symbolizes the destruction of the temple in the bible.

At most weddings, the groom unveils the bride, but at Jewish weddings, the groom veils the bride. It symbolizes that beauty is fleeting. This ceremony is called Badken.
