• New use of television in the presential race 1960 both parties spent a substantial ammount of Money
• The Democrats spent over 6 million in television and radio spots and ads
• The Republicans spent over 7.5 million

BAY OF PIGS

• On April 17th 1961 1,400 armed cuban exiles landed on the bay of pigs on the south coast of cuba
• Kennedy cancelled air support to keep U.S involvement a secret
• Castro's forces killed or captured almost all members of La Brigada
• The action exposed plot to overthrow a neighbors goverment and made the U.S look weak and unorganized

BERLIN WALL

• Kennedy faced another foreign policy challenge in June 1961
• Berlin Wall visible symbol of the Cold War division between east and west
