JOHN DALTON

BY: FRANCISCO PUEBLA

Who was he?
was an English chemist, meteorologist and physicist. He is best known for his pioneering work in the development of modern atomic theory

Dalton's atomic theory had 5 main points to it

5 main points.
Matter is composed of very tiny or microscopic particles called "Atom".
Atom is an indivisible particle.
Atom can neither be created nor it is destroyed.
Atoms of an element are identical in size, shape, mass and in other properties.
Atoms of different elements are different in their properties.
Atoms combine with each other in small whole numbers.
All chemical reactions are due to combination or separation of atoms.

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT DALTON.

  • His rare form of colorblindness, he was only able to see one color, yellow.
  • included his findings based on research in evaporation of liquids and thermal expansion.
  • published a list of atomic weights for six different elements: hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, sulfur, and phosphorous.
  • One of his most important contributions is also his work on the principles of volumetric analysis.
