JOHN HANCOCK
- John Hancock was born on January 23, 1737.
- He died on October 8, 1793.
- He was a patriot.
JOHN HANCOCK LIVED IN MASSACHUSETTS.
John Hancock's Occupations:
-John worked for his uncle, Thomas Hancock, who owned a highly successful shipping business.He took over the business when his uncle died.
-He was a member of the Continental Congress and its first president.
- In 1780 he won the election and became the first governor of Massachusetts.
-His life was remarkable because he was the first person to sign the Declaration of Independence .
-He was also elected the first governor of Massachusetts.
-Even though John Hancock was one of the wealthiest men of the Thirteen Colonies, he was always donating and helping people out.
Lessons:
-Don't let money and fame change you.
(Even though Hancock became rich and powerful quickly, he did not forget his friends and community. He frequently donated money to churches, schools, and poor people in Boston. Hancock’s generosity made him popular among Bostonians, and he loved getting their attention.)
-Stay loyal.
(John Hancock dedicated his life to his friends, family, and country.)

-John Hancock was one of the wealthiest men in the Thirteen Colonies. Hancock used his wealth to help the colonial cause.
-He was charged with smuggling ,but even though the charges were eventually dropped he was often described as a smuggler in historical accounts.
Interesting facts :
-John Hancock went to Harvard University.
-John Hancock undertook various business duties in London from 1760-1761 and witnessed the coronation of King George III.
-On April 19, 1775 John Hancock and fellow patriot Samuel Adams avoided arrest after Paul Revere made his legendary midnight ride to warn them the British were coming.
-The most common legend is that he signed his name bigger
than everyone else's so that the "fat old king could read it without
his spectacles".
