  • His birthplace was in Baintree, Massachusetts.

Childhood Facts

  • His father died when he was at a young age.
  • A few months later, his mother sent him to live with his aunt and uncle.
  • He was wealthy so when he got older, he got to attend Harvard College.

His Contributions

1. When anti-British sentiment and unrest grew among the colonists where he lived, he used his wealth and influence to aid movement for American Independence.
2.He was the president of the Second Continental Congress when the Declaration of Independence was adopted.
3.He was also the first governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Interesting Facts

1. When he died, grave robbers tried to pry off the rings that was left on his fingers but struggled so just cut off his hand to take them off in a more secure place.
2. John Hancock is a smuggler because he escaped paying for importing goods like tea.
