Early years

  • His first voyage was in 1562
  • He was well educated
  • First to run the Triangular Trade 

1570-1587

  • Was part of the Ridolfi Plot to kill Queen Elizabeth  
  • Appointed treasurer of the Royal Navy
  • Hawkins Navy had the best fleet of ships
  • His ships where Razee built

later life

  • Measures made english ships fast and highly maneuverable 
  • Tested against Spanish Armada 
  • Was one of 3 commanders with Drake and Frobisher
  • Knighted by Queen Elizabeth 

Charity

  • Charity for sick and elederly sailors 
  • Founded 2 hospitals to care for sailors 
  • Charity continues today 

Death

  • Went on a treasure hunt voyage with his Cousin Sir Drake 
  • Twice attacked San Juan and Puerto Rico, Could not defat 
  • Both fell ill, Hawkins died at sea, Dysentery- Diarrhea with blood 
  • He was buried at sea somewhere off the coast of Porto Belo
  • Succeeded by his son Sir Ricard Hawkins
