  • Died in Washington D.C. 1848
  • President from 1825 to 1829
  • Part of the Federalist Party

EARLY LIFE ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Graduated from Harvard College
  • He was a lawyer in his years before office
  • Elected in 1802 as U.S. Senate
  • 6 years later appointed as minister of Russia

CAMPAIGN

  • Adam's advocacy of a strong federal government
  • High tariff enraged defenders of slavery and states rights advocates
  • He wants to move the Native Americans to the south, and west of the Mississippi River

AFTER OFFICE

  • Conducted a dramatic fight against the expansion of slavery
  • Died in 1848 from stroke
  • 1830, Plymouth district elected Adams to House of Reps.
  • Later in 1836 fought the (Gag Rule) for 8 years till he obtained repeal
