Introduction

  • Email blast to participants prior to first meeting.
  • Overview of upcoming month-long study.
  • Includes assigned readings and research.
  • Q & A document to be completed for second meeting.
Hello there! You are receiving this email because you have signed up for the Home Group Study of John the Baptist, hosted by Jonathan at Scripted Genius (that’s me). I look forward to meeting you next week at our first lesson meeting, but we have some groundwork to complete before then. So you have a clear understanding of what to expect in the next few weeks, we will be looking at the life and death of John the Baptist. Each meeting with last about forty minutes and take place on Mondays at seven o’clock in the evening, starting with next Monday. The first week’s title is “Religious Zeal,” week two is “I’m Not a Big Deal,” week three “Eyes to the Front,” and week four “Faith at all Times.” To best prepare for our first meeting, please research the terms “Qumran” and “Essenes” and bring a one-paragraph summary of your findings with you. Also, please type up who you think John the Baptist is, and why. Don’t forget to include any Gospel details about his birth, ministry, and death. Lastly, please start reading “The Shadow of the Galilean” by Gerd Theissen. This book is not provided in the meetings, and I will assume you have read it by our first meeting next week. If you have any questions or concerns, please reply to this email as soon as possible. Otherwise, I look forward to seeing you next week. Kol Tuv!
