EARLY LIFE

  • John W. Booth was born May 10,1838.
  • He was born near Bel Air, Maryland.
  • John and his siblings were raised on a farm, which was worked by the family's slaves.
  • Booth was the second youngest of ten children.

ACTING CAREER

  • At age 17, Booth made his acting debut in Baltimore. His early performances were such a hit that Booth was soon invited to tour all over the country with a Shakespearean acting company.

POLITICS AND CONSPARIACY

  • 1850s- Booth joined the No-Nothing Party.
  • 1859-He joined a Virginia Company that aided the capture and execution of John Brown.
  • 1865-Booth enlisted 6 southern Sympathizers in his kidnapping, their attempt to kidnap Lincoln in Washington, D.C. Failed.

LINCOLN'S ASSASSINATION

  • On April 14, 1865, at precisely 10 p.m. Booth shot Lincoln at Ford Theater.

DEATH OF JOHN WILKES BOOTH

  • On April 26,1865 Booth was shot in the neck by one of the investigators, paralyzing him.
  • His last words were, "Tell mother I did it for my country."
