JOHNNY➔THE OUTSIDERS

"DO" & "SAY"

Johnny➔"Do"

1)About four months ago Johnny got beaten up bad. His face was cut up, bruised, and swollen but he managed to gasp out what happened. There was four Socs that threatened him and one had a lot of rings. They beat him up half to death.(chapter 2, page 32&33)
2)Johnny killed Bob, the handsome Soc. When Bob's group of Socs came to the park to beat up Johnny and Ponyboy, Johnny had a switchblade and killed Bob when he started drowning Ponyboy. The rest of the Socs ran after Johnny stabbed Bob.(chapter 4, page 56)

3)When Johnny, Pony, and Dally found the old abandoned church on fire Johnny and Pony went inside the church to save the children. Dally was yelling for them to come back to the car but they went anyway. They managed to save all the children but Johnny went to the hospital because of a broken back.(chapter 6, page 92&93)
4)After the rumble Dally and Ponyboy went to visit Johnny in the hospital. When Dally didn't know what to do he said how there still writting editorials about him in the paper and how everyone's prod of him. When Johnny heard that his eyes glowed. Dally was proud of him, and that's all Johnny had ever wanted.(chapter 9, page 148)

Johnny➔"Do"
5)After burning timber fell on Johnny he had a broken back and was sent to the hospital. When Dally and Ponyboy went to visit Johnny in the hospital after the rumble Johnny died. The pillow seemed to sink a little and he looked like a candle with the flame gone.(chapter 9, page 148&149)

Johnny➔"Say"
1)"Leave her alone, Dally" (chapter 2, page 24). This is what Johnny said when he stood up to Dally at the movies. Nobody expected Johnny to say this, he was normally quiet and barely said anything. If that was anyone else Dally would have flattened them without a moments hesitation but because Johnny was the gangs pet Dally just walked away angry.
2)"Shut up! We're goin' to get you out!" (Chapter 6, page 92). Johnny said this when him and Pony went inside that burning church to save the kids. After Johnny had said this Pony was surprised, Johnny wasn't behaving at all like his old self.

Johnny"Say"
3)"I said I don't want to see her. She's probably come to tell me about all the trouble I'm causing her and about how glad her and the old man'll be when I'm dead. Well tell her to leave me alone. For once." (Chapter 8, page 122). This is what Johnny said when he heard that his mother came to visit him in the hospital. This shows just how much he hates his parents and how much his parents don't want him and don't care for him.
4)"Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold." (Chapter 9, page 148). These were Johnny's last words. He said them because when Ponyboy and Johnny were in Windrixville, Pony recited a poem by Robert Frost called Nothing Gold Can Stay.

Johnny"Say"
5)"Useless… fightings no good…" (chapter 9, page 148). Johnny said this because that's what got him into this mess. All of this never would have happened if there was no fighting. Johnny never would have killed that Soc, they never would have had to go to Windrixville, they never would have gone into that burning church, timber wouldn't have fallen on Johnny, and he would not be in the hospital.
