THE REACTION OF THE BODY AND MIND TO EVERYDAY STIMULI

COMMON CAUSES OF STRESS/ STRESSORS

  • Tests/ Too much homework and too little time
  • Peer pressure
  • Media /Natural disasters/ War
  • Smoking/ Drugs
  • Bodily Changes

ALARM

  • First response to stressors
  • The hypothalamus is alerted by other parts of the brain
  • The hypothalamus then sends out hormones
  • These hormones syimulate the pituary gland
  • The pituary gland stimulates the adreal gland which makes adrenaline

ADRENALINE

  • "Emergency hormone
  • Prepares the body when it needs to respond to stressors
  • Increases heart rate
  • Faster perspiration rate
  • Muscle tension

RESISTANCE

  • Body may perform at a higher level
  • More endurance
  • Result of body adapting to stress

FATIGUE

  • Body is unable to adapt after a period of time
  • Body becomes tired
  • You are now unable to manage other stressors effectively
  • Happens after prolonged stress

STRESS AND YOUR HEALTH

  • Stress can cause physical changes
  • These changes can be harmful for your body
  • Stress that continues for a long time can cause
  • Psychosomatic responce
  • Reaction caused by stress not injury

EFFECTS OF STRESS ON YOUR BODY

  • Headache
  • Weakened immune system
  • High blood pressure
  • Digestive disorders
  • Clenching the jaw, grinding of teeth

IN CONCLUSION

  • Stress can be hard to deal with
  • Don't use alchohol or drugs to help with stress
  • This can cause abuse of those drugs
