Jose de Escandon

Father of the Lower Rio Grande 

Born in Spain in 1700, Escandon moved to Mexico when he was 15.

He was a Mexican soldier that got sent to Texas to be an explorer.

Later he had become a knight.

He established over twenty towns in Texas.

He married Dominga Pedrajo in 1727 and had seven children.

He died during his trial for maladministration in Mexico city in 1770.
