PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Jose Posada was born in 1852 in Aguascalientes, Mexico. He is a famous painter who was mostly known by his skulls. Jose is the one that paints the Day of the Dead skulls. He died on January 20, 1913 in Mexico City, Mexico of acute enteritis disease.
THe life of Posada
- As a child, Posada worked as a farm laborer and in a pottery factory.
- He taught school for a short time and then began to draw.
- Gradually, he was attracted to printmaking.
- He became a kind of pictorial journalist with thousands of illustrations
- He died in 1913
When Posada first started printmaking, he was so good his prints could be found in advertisements and cigars and almost everywhere. Jose Posada has many paintings that involve the government the rich or poor and all middle classes in the form of skeletons.

We learned that Jose came from small beginnings and had to work to become a famous artist. His artwork was very different from other artists, because he did sketches of Day of The Dead skeletons and he was the only artist that did it. His artwork affects other people because when people walk by, they stop and look and see how unique his artwork was.

People may not understand that Jose was a very outgoing artist. He loved drawing skulls probably sending the message that we might one day end up like that. Jose Posada was probably one of the most inspiring artists of al time!
POSADA INPIRES
Jose Posada inspires many people. This sculpture was inspired by him. This was not done by him, but he inspired the person that did it. It is called "The Catrina on a Swing." Posada's artwork was very different from other artists, and it was very cool. That is why he inspires many people.
