THE STORY OF JOSIAH

JOSIAH

  • Josiah is mentioned mant times in the Bible they are:
  • 2 Chronicles 35:1-26, 1 Chronicles 3:13-14, Matthew 1:10-11,
  • 2 Kings 21:24-26, 2 Kings 23:16-34,
  • And several times in 2 Chronicles chapters 34 and 36

KING JOSIAH

  • King Josiah was one of the last good things that happened to the Israelites.
  • Josiah became king at the age of eight after his father Amon.
  • When he was fifteen he began to take an interest in the Lord.
  • At age 19 he began to try to stop idol worship.
  • He removed the shrines that were placed up to other gods.

KING JOSIAH

THE BIBLE FOUND

  • At the age of twenty-five Josiah decidied to rebuild the temple.
  • While cleaning everything out they discovered a book they believed to be the Bible.
  • After Shapan read the Bible to Josiah, he tore his robes for he knew that Isreal was sinning.
  • Josiah was certain that the Lord was furious with the Israelites.
  • Josiah found a prophet and found out what he though was the truth, the Lord was furious.

KING JOSIAH

  • Along with taking down the idols he also got rid of the priests.
  • He did the same thing with other parts of Judah.
  • He even toured parts of Israel seeking to do the same thing.

JOSIAH AND THE TEMPLE

  • At the age of twenty-five Josiah decidied to rebuild the temple.
  • While cleaning everything out they discovered a book they believed to be the Bible.
  • After Shapan read the Bible to Josiah

JOSIAH'S REVIVAL

  • Josiah set out on a campaign to obey the Lord's instructions.
  • After finding the Bible and before he started destroying the idols
  • he gathered everyone in Jerusalem and read the Bible to them.
  • He then renewed the Lord's covenant and promised to do what the Bible says.

JOSIAH'S REVIVAL

  • Then King Josiah went on a mission to destroy all the idols.
  • He did tours all through Judah and Israel to destroy all shrines and idols.
  • Then finally Josiah hosted the Passover.
  • All of Judah and most of Israel attended this Passover.

JOSIAH'S DEATH

  • In Josiah's 31st year as king he faced a national security crisis.
  • Egypt ha sent an army to attack the Euphrates River.
  • To get to the Euprates River they had to pass through Judah's land.
  • Josiah wasn't going to let this happen so he sent an army to defend Judah's borders.
  • But sadly in the process of taking this stand he was killed in battle and his son Jehoahaz took the throne.
