JEWISH FOOD LAWS

• They must eat food that is kosher.
• They can't eat things like seafood, cow, sheep, deer or goat unless it is kosher.
• Kosher species must be slaughtered by a SCOCHET .
• Since Jewish law doesn't allow pain to animals it must be done in a way were the species are unconsciousness and death occurs instantaneously.
• KOSHER food is important to Jews as its one of the laws of the TORAH

SHABBATH

• According to the HALAKHA SHABBATH is observed from a few minutes before sunset on the Friday evening until the appearance of THREE stars in the sky on the SATURDAY
• It is never called the Jewish sabbath but is called the sabbath of Lord thy GOD.Why ? Jews should never STIGMATISE gods rest day.
• Most Jewish people believe that the Shabbath is a GIFT from God.

The SYNAGOGUE is the Jewish place of worship.all synagogues contain a BIMAH which is a raised platform were the RABBI is found.The TORAH ark is where the Torah scrolls are kept.The ark in the synagogue is placed in a way that those who place it are facing Jerusalem.

MORE ABOUT THE SYNAGOGUE

• There are approximately 5 Jewish synagogues in Glasgow.
• The RABBI is the teacher of the Torah.
• There used to be only MALE rabbi but in modern times some female rabbi has appeared.
