EARLY LIFE

  • Born in Moorgate, London
  • Had 3 younger siblings
  • Believed he was born in his father's inn
  • Went to a dame school.
  • Father was a holster.

ADOLECENSE

  • Was described as having a volatile character
  • When he was 8, his father died.
  • When he was 14, his mother died.
  • Went to apprentice with a surgeon.
  • Both his mother and grandfather left him significant sums of money.
Liked to get into fights
Father died from skull fracture when fell off horse
Mother died from TB
Grandma appointed two London merchants to watch him, Abbey= tea broker. Didn't tell Keats about inheritance worth 334,000 pounds today. Would have made a difference.

CAREER

  • Went to a hospital to apprentice
  • Started writing more often.
  • Met Leigh Hunt, a publisher
  • Made friends with poets
  • Published first book in 1817

  • First volume not received well.
  • Had a decline in health due to negative reviews.
  • Met Isabella Jones but wasn't comitted.
  • Met Fanny Brawne and fell in love.
  • Published a couple more books of poetry.
Friend Shelley told him to refine more, didn't listen
Met fanny when she was 18. Her grandpa owned an inn too, she had same name as his sister and mom, lost people due to tb too.

LATER LIFE AND DEATH

  • Brother had Tuberculosis, died in 1819
  • Started writing Hyperion
  • Published his third volume.
  • Contracted Tuberculosis in fall of 1819
  • Died in Rome at 25 with his friend Joseph Severn.
