KELOID

CAUSES

  • A keloid can be considered a *scar gone wild*
  • A mass scar tissue that has raised, firm, and irregular shape.
  • A keloid occurs most often as a result of trauma or surgery, minor cuts, acne, burns, or vaccination sites.
  • A keloid forms because the overproduction of connective tissue at the affected site

SYMPTOMS & SIGNS

  • Keloids are usually raised and look shiny
  • They are mostly pink to red
  • They can be itchy, tender, or even painful to touch

PROGNOSIS

  • Keloids are harmless cosmetic problems and do not become cancerous
  • Once they stop growing they won't start growing again unless injured

TREATMENTS

  • Keloids usually don't need treatment
  • If they do bother your you can freeze, steroid injections, radiation, silicone, and laser treatments
