Amboseli national park
Nicknamed the ‘Land of the Giants’, Amboseli is the second most popular park in Kenya. It is where you can come face to face with the world’s largest land animals, the African Elephant, as they leisurely graze on the plains with the spectacular Mount Kilimanjaro serving as a backdrop. But the large number of elephants is not the only thing the park has to offer, you get to see the rest of the big five: Lions, Buffaloes, Leopards and the critically endangered black rhino.Bird watchers are also in for a treat as there are over 400 species of birds to marvel at. And the best part, the flat and low lying nature of the land will ensure you get a perfect unobstructed view of the animals. While the land receives little rainfall annually, streams from Mount Kilimanjaro usually surface through the porous soil of the park and create an oasis of swampy wetlands. Its the stark contrast between the lush green oasis and the dry dusty environs that gives the park its amazing beauty. The view of Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, is what great postcards are made of. Absolutely spectacular and breathtaking views of this hulk are best seen at dawn and dusk, when the clouds have lifted.
