Why? fertile highlands in Kenya attracted European farmers
-Gave way to Uganda for Europeans
-Uganda=excellent source to Nile River
Rule? British followed divide and conquer policy

-break up large power in order to conquer smaller bits
ex: British divided Kenya's languages into ethnic classifications
based on their variations and traditional backgrounds
-then specific ethnic groups (tribes) were formed
