Background Info

  • In 2006, KFC opened it's first restaurant in Syria.
  • The first one was built in Damascus.
  • It was the first American restaurant there.
  • There were a total of 7 KFC's in Syria.
  • Soon there were 450 KFC's in across the Middle East

Problems :(

  • Food shortages & poverty became a major issue in Syria
  • Half of the population was in poverty
  • 4 million Syrians faced food insecurities
  • Many children were so sick, the 'ordinary cold' could've killed them
  • Civil war began in 2011 & chicken production was reduced.

More Problems...

  • As of May 2013, less than 35% of the country's poultry units were operating
  • More than 50% of jobs in the sector had been lost
  • The lack of chicken meant that KFC had to shutdown  :(
  • In attempt to save it, chickens were going to be imported from Lebanon
  • Road violence & high diesel prices eliminated those ideas

...

  • Thousands of families took refuge in other countries.
  • Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey & Egypt.

SOLUTIONS!

  • Make the food affordable!
  • Half of the Syrian population couldn't afford it due to poverty
  • Let them have access to basic needs like food, water, medicine, etc.

The End! :)
