After establishing a research topic, students should identify questions they have about the topic, or areas in which they wish to know more. Students should create a plan to locate information as they begin seeking answers.

Students should be able to critically consume information in a practiced, skillful manner that enables them to analyze the credibility of their found sources. Students should consult a variety of credible sources and be intentional about consulting different perspectives, so that they are able to form their own, relevant conclusions.

Students should compile their findings from digital resources in such a way that the specific piece of evidence they found to be useful within the source is made clear, and that the creator of this information is properly cited and accredited. There are numerous digital tools students can use to curate their findings.

Exploring topics that are relevant beyond the walls of the classroom provides students with a sense of purpose and meaning when approaching research. That sense of purpose can only become further established when effective research strategies are being employed, and students are able to construct knowledge by synthesizing conclusions supported by their findings.
