The Earths orbit is in a near perfect circle. A lot of the misconceptions have to do with the earth being closer to the sun. The truth is that the reasons we have seasons in because the earths tilt is in the same direction throughout the whole rotation of earth. So the sun will be hitting different parts of Earth as it goes through its orbit. You'll hear us talking about this a lot.

Earths seasons are most dependent on the tilt because it will hit different parts of the Earth. It might seem like we are just deleting ourselves but nearly all the misconceptions have to do with this. So: The sun hits different parts of the earth at different times because the earth is tilted. While it might be summer day for us, it is winter night for Australia.

The Earth's tilt causes seasons because the Earth is tilted the same way through the whole orbit so Earth is getting different kinds of direct and indirect sunlight.

The seasons happen because of the tilt on the Earth. When the northern hemisphere is tilted towards the sun, it is summer. This happens because of direct and indirect sunlight.

In the beginning, I thought that the seasons were dependent on how far or close the earth was to the sun.

Then I learned that because of Earth's tilt, the sun will hit different parts of the Earth at different times, hence the seasons.

"But then, summer in the US would be Winter for Australia."

Technically, yes! It would be much colder for Australia than it would be for them in our winter.
