LA AMISTAD

One of the most famous resistance took place on board the Spanish ship La Amistad, on July 1839

La Amistad was on it's way from Havana to Puerto Principe, Cuba. This is when Clinque took over the ship.

The ship was carrying 53 kidnapped Africans from West Africa

The slaves in the holding deck found a rusty file,freeing themselves going up to the deck armed with machete like knives.

They went up on deck and killed the captain and many crew members, gaining control of the ship

They demanded to be sailed home but the navigator deceived them and sailed them to the coast of Long Island

La Amistad was a 19th century two masted schooner about of about 120feet. It was not a slave ship, it wasent meant to transport large cargoes of slaves
