  • 6.8500° N, 5.3000° W
  • La Côte d'Ivoire is in Western Africa
  • It is to the north of the Gulf of Guinea
  • It is south of the countries Mali and Burkina Faso
  • To the west is Liberia and Guinea, and east is Ghana

GEOGRAPHY

  • The capital of Ivory Coast is Yamoussoukro
  • Total area: 322,463 sq km
  • Border countries: Burkina Faso, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Mali
  • Climate: warm and dry (fall), hot and dry (spring), hot and wet (Summer)
  • Terrain: mostly flat to undulating plains; mountains in northwest

GEOGRAPHY

  • Natural resources include petroleum, natural gas, and diamonds
  • La Cote d'Ivoire is slightly larger than Mexico

PEOPLE AND SOCIETY

  • The most popular ethnic group is Akan (42.1%)
  • There are 60 native dialects, but French is the official language
  • Islam is the most popular religion
  • The population is 22,848,945
  • 56.9% are literate
