  • The building was completed in 1842.
  • Its construction started in 1764 and finished in 1842.

  • To the south is the Place de la Concorde
  • To the east is the Place Vendôme
  • to the west Saint-Augustin
  • Located near the metro station

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

  • devoted to Mary Magdalene
  • Construction halted during the French Revolution until 1806.
  • Napoleon decided to build a temple in honor of his army.
  • Then it became la madeleine it was never napoleons intension to build it for mary.

FACTS ABOUT THE LANDMARK

  • The Madeleine Church was designed in its present form as a temple to the glory of Napoleon's army.
  • Behind the alter inside the church is a ascension of Mary Magdalene
