PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Lake Hillier, also known as Pink Lake.
It is surrounded by eucalyptus, paperback trees
The only living organisms in Lake Hillier are microorganisms including Dunaliella salina and red halophilic bacteria present in the salt crusts; this causes the salt content in the lake to create a red dye which helps produce the color.
The lake attracts many different species of birds.
It is a salt lake and the salt that is in it actually affects the color it has. Salt used to be mined from the lake, but it is not anymore.
When the temperature of the water is high enough and there is enough natural light, highly concentrated salt is produced.
The lake has not been visibly pink for over ten years and scientists are working to restore the previous salt conditions so that the lake has the visibly pink color again.
